Good evening, blog viewers. My name is Matthew Flora and this blog is going to mainly consist of articles about my job searching progress and job skills.
To start off, I am an autistic. That may seem like a bad thing, but, due to the nature of my spectrum disorder, I see the world a mite bit differently than you do.
My senses are stronger and work differently than yours. And I find repetitive behaviors incredibly soothing and reliable.
Why is this relevant, you ask? Just showing you what kinds of jobs I'm up for (though any job not requiring a special degree or years of experience will do).
Oftentimes in my own personal life, I have to alphabetize things. Years ago, I started keeping all my various trading cards together in alphabetical order and I have never looked back. It's not a bad way to kill another lazy Sunday afternoon.
And, in just the last few months, at the suggestion of a writing book/writer's blog (I forget which), I sorted out every book in the house that mattered to me and placed them all on the shelving on my side of the bedroom. This transformed my half of the room into "my" area, an area made and intended just for me. If I ever do wind up writing in there, who knows what I could come up with.
But now I must be serious and share something new that I've been working on with you: the Dewey Decimal System. If I want to work shelving anything at a library or a bookstore, that would be something pretty worthwhile for me to know.
I started my search by looking it up on Google, like practically everyone does with practically everything else these days. One link led to this lame rap about it on Youtube. It sounded lame, but I figured it would put things simply, so I clicked on it:
The lyrics are there in the video description, so I just copied down the part that mattered and started going over it. I'm still learning, and maybe you can too.
Here's the basic gist of it: Every book in the library has a number code attached to it, which corresponds to what kind of book it is and where it should be shelved.
*If if starts with a 0, that book goes in what is called "Generalities". I just looked it up, and it seems like that's other-language dictionaries and encyclopedias and stuff.
*If it starts with a 1, that book gets filed under Philosophy and Psychology. A certain someone I know would be really interested to hear that (as he's into Philosophy and Psychology, you see).
*If it starts with a 2, then it is a book on Religion.
*If it starts with a 3, then it is a book on the Social Sciences, like gay marriage and suicide and what-have-you.
*Items starting with 4 are to be filed under Language, possibly meaning that they are for writing and such.
*5 and 6 are for items regarding Natural Sciences and Technology, respectively.
*7 and 8, if the number begins with those, mean that it must be shelved under Arts and Literature, respectively (that is, 7 is Arts and 8 is Literature).
*And Items beginning with the Number Nine are for things you could learn about in any school, mostly meaning History and Geography.
I will continue reviewing these facts in the days ahead, and I certainly hope that you will too, as you follow along with me on my journey toward gainful employment.
